A community water supply system is proposed under the I-WASH initiative to improve access to safe and reliable water for 132 families in Shukno Chhora, Dighinala Upazila, Khagrachhari District. Hilly terrain, scattered settlements and seasonal water scarcity create difficulties for households collecting water for drinking, cooking and other domestic needs.

The proposal combines a community well and natural stream, a suitable water-retention and intake arrangement, solar-powered pumping, storage, filtration and disinfection, and distribution pipelines to community water points. Site photographs show water in the stream and impounded areas, concrete structures and steep surrounding slopes.

The preliminary report identifies an estimated vertical lift of 950 feet, approximately 290 metres, which requires verification through a topographical survey. Detailed engineering assessment must determine total pumping head, pump and solar-array capacity, pipeline pressure requirements, storage capacity and treatment needs. Dry-season water availability, water quality and the structural safety of existing stream works must also be assessed before the design is finalized.

Environmental and safety considerations include flood overflow, erosion and scour protection, sediment management, downstream water use and safe access to equipment. Treated water must be tested against applicable drinking-water quality requirements before it is supplied for human consumption.

Proposed implementation stages include site assessment, detailed design and costing, construction and installation, testing and commissioning, and community handover. A community water management committee and trained local operators are envisaged to support maintenance, repair financing and water-quality monitoring.

If feasibility is confirmed and the system is implemented successfully, the initiative is expected to reduce water-collection time and effort, improve supply reliability and strengthen community participation in sustainable WASH services. The system remains a proposal, with final specifications subject to detailed technical assessment.
