Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha (TUS) convened a stakeholder meeting at the Kabakhali Union Parishad hall in Dighinala on 15 September 2026 to review progress and agree on the next steps for bringing safe drinking water and improved WASH services to remote hill communities.
The meeting was held under the Increasing Access to Improved WASH Services in Bangladesh (IWASH) project, implemented by TUS with technical support from HELVETAS Bangladesh and funding from charity: water. The project began its activities in Dighinala Upazila in April 2026 and will continue through December 2026.
Kabakhali Union Parishad Chairman Knowledge Chakma attended as chief guest. TUS Programme Manager Dhaneswar Dewan, HELVETAS Bangladesh Technical Officer Diptimoy Chakma, Union Parishad members and other local stakeholders also participated in the discussion.
Participants reviewed project activities, assessed progress and discussed the next implementation plan. Proposed interventions include a deep-tube-well and solar-powered water supply system in Narikel Bagan; treatment of surface water with solar-powered pumping in the remote and elevated Shuknachhari area; arsenic- and iron-removal systems in Muslimpara and South Pukurghat; and safe-water facilities, a WASH block and a hygiene corner at Hajachhara Jorabrij High School.
These systems are intended to improve access to arsenic- and iron-free water, particularly during the dry season when remote hill communities experience severe water shortages. The meeting emphasized close cooperation among local representatives, institutions and community members to ensure timely and effective implementation.
