About the network

The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), also referred to in some formal contexts as the Asian Indigenous Peoples Pact Foundation, is a regional Indigenous Peoples organization founded in 1992 and headquartered in Chiang Mai, Thailand. AIPP brings together Indigenous Peoples organizations and networks across Asia to strengthen solidarity, organizational capacity, rights awareness, Indigenous knowledge, sustainable resource management, women and youth participation, human-rights engagement and regional/international cooperation. TUS has a documented long-term relationship with AIPP. AIPP’s 2008 Annual Report records Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha as one of nine organizations admitted as new members at the General Assembly, making 2008 the documented year of TUS’s AIPP membership. AIPP’s current Bangladesh members page continues to list TUS as a member organization. AIPP also lists TUS among Bangladesh organizations connected to the Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders Network (IPHRD). In 2020, AIPP reported that TUS organized a district-level workshop in Bangladesh under the Indigenous Knowledge and Peoples of Asia (IKPA) initiative, supporting Indigenous communities to discuss and document Indigenous Knowledge. TUS has also contributed to AIPP member and partner processes, including collective regional submissions and network activities. At present, Ripan Chakma of Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha is listed on AIPP’s Executive Council under South Asia, providing a current institutional link between TUS and AIPP’s regional governance structure.
