Promoting GESI Responsive Nature-Based Solutions for Enabling Resilience in CHT of Bangladesh
The project “Promoting GESI Responsive Nature-Based Solutions for Enabling Resilience in CHT of Bangladesh” will run from 01 July 2025 to 31 December 2026 in Dighinala Upazila, Khagrachari District. It is led by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation with support from ICIMOD and Helvetas as donors, while the local implementation will be carried out by Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha (TUS). The project will directly and indirectly benefit around 14,008 people by promoting nature-based solutions that are gender and socially inclusive.
The main goal of the project is to promote agroforestry as a nature-based solution to establish and scale up climate-resilient and GESI-responsive agriculture. This will help communities adopt better farming methods that are both sustainable and inclusive. The expected outcome is to improve livelihoods and increase incomes for local communities.
Under Output 01, the project will strengthen the capacity of government agencies, think tanks, and key stakeholders in designing and implementing GESI-responsive NbS solutions. Activities include needs assessments, inception workshops, module development, and ToT-based capacity-building for local trainers and producers.
Under Output 02, a Community Learning Centre (CLC) will be established with support from universities, government departments, and extension services. The CLC will serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, demo plots, and training activities. Producers will receive inputs, training, and follow-up support, while Farmer Field Days (FFD) will allow peer learning from demonstration sites.
Under Output 03, the project will implement GESI-responsive springshed management to ensure sustainable water availability. This will include identifying critical springs, setting up data monitoring systems, hydrogeological mapping, and designing detailed management plans. The project will measure spring revival impacts and share findings with communities and stakeholders.
Under Output 04, the project will build effective partnerships for co-creating and strengthening knowledge bases and portals on resilient and inclusive agriculture solutions. This will foster cross-learning, knowledge sharing, and mobilize resources to scale up integrated NbS packages in the CHT region.
